EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW
U.S. & Canadian citizens traveling on vacation are required to obtain a tourist visa to enter Brazil. In order to enter Brazil citizens of the United States are required to obtain a visa in advance of departing the USA. A visa does not replace the need for a passport. Visas are obtained by applying at the Embassy or Consulate that represents your state of residence. They may also be obtained by a third party visa services company. Once granted, the Brazilian visa is valid for 10 years and can be used for multiple entries. The visa allows for a maximum stay of 90 days per entry or a total of 180 per year.
*In 2017, the Brazilian government announced they would begin implementing an online visa application process which would eliminate the need to apply for a tourist visa in a Brazilian Embassy or Consulate. The online system is not yet in effect. We will keep clients traveling to Brazil informed of all news related to the changes.
As of March 2016, U.S. citizens are no longer required to pay the $160 Reciprocity Fee to enter Argentina for touristic visits. Canadians are still required to pay the fee and the visa must be obtained prior to entry into the country. Registration and payment of the fee can be done here.
There are no visa requirements for U.S. or Canadian citizens to enter Ecuador for touristic purposes. For those visiting the Galapagos Islands, all travelers must pay the Galapagos Park Entrance Fee ($100 per person) and the Transit Fee ($20 per person). Both fees must be paid in person at the airport of departure in the mainland (typically Quito or Guayaquil) and are payable in cash only. The fee is subject to change per the regulations of the Ecuadorian government.
Bolivia currently requires U.S. citizens to obtain a tourist visa prior to entering the country (Canadians are exempt from this requirement). Please refer to the Bolivian Embassy website for specific information regarding the process.
