DAY 1 - Iguassu Falls
Arrive Iguassu Falls. Met by your guide at exit from baggage claim and transfer to your hotel. Overnight at Hotel.
DAY 2 - Iguassu Falls
Breakfast at the hotel. Full Day Argentina & Brazil Falls w/Macuco Safari. Overnight at Hotel.
Departure from the hotel, cross the Tancredo Neves Bridge with its lovely view of the Iguassu Canyon heading towards the Iguaçu National Park in Argentina. Visit the upper walkways wich allow a different perspective and more intimate contact with the falls and adjoining rainforest filled with orchids, bromeliads, birds and other wildlife. The highlight of the trip is a visit to the suspended platform at the very brink of the Devil’s Throat – largest of the waterfalls. Return to the Brazil National Park for your boating adventure! For passengers staying at Hotel das Cataratas, the tour starts by walking from the hotel, located inside the Iguaçu National Park. We will take a descending trail of the canyon, from where we can enjoy panoramic views of more than 240 falls. We will board a glass elevator, which takes us to a platform were more exquisite views will be revealed. Along with its “sister” park in Argentina, The Iguassu National Park forms the most significant remaining rainforest in the southern cone of South America, which along with the waterfalls have been declared a National Heritage Site by UNESCO. We will end the tour with a visit to the artisans fair. The big adventure begins at the Macuco Safari entrance gates, located at kilometer 25 on the Cataratas Highway, inside the Iguassu National Park. We will embark in open jeep-towed wagons permiting a free view of the scenery along the trail. During the three kilometers stretch through the jungle, multi-lingual guides point out and explain the flora and fauna of the Park. Second stage of the tour is an optional hike of 600 meters, which leads us to the waterfall baptized Macuco Falls. The Macuco Falls, perfect for a refreshing dip on days of intense heat, spill down from a height of approximately 20 meters. Access is via a stairway carved into an ancient rock. The last stop is the Macuco Safari dock on the Brazilian side of the Iguassu River. In the water the inflatable bi-motor boats are secure and efficient vessels, especially constructed to withstand the rigors of the excursion. Before embarking, passengers receive life-vests and plastic containers made to protect photographic and filming equipment. The boat travels up-river, passing the canyon, facing the rapids, at a speed permitting the appreciation of the scenery. Rocks, animals and a spectacular green landscape complete the scenery until we reach the great horseshoe known as the Devil's Throat. To top the tour off, the pilot will give everyone a splash by navigating through the spray of one of the falls! We recommend that passengers bring a change of clothes, due to the constant spray from the falls, and to not bring anything that can get wet - lockers are available at the pier before boarding.
DAY 3 - Iguassu Falls / Pantanal
Early departure from the hotel for your flight to the Pantanal. Arrive Cuiaba - met by your guide & transfer to the lodge. Dinner & Overnight at Lodge.
While crossing the area, it is possible to spot and appreciate the local flora & fauna. Late afternoon hike through a surrounding area to a 12 m observation tower and a spectacular view of sunset. After dinner, night walk to observe the South Hemisphere sky, hear and feel the nocturnal environment and watch some nocturnal animals.
DAY 4 - Pantanal
After breakfast, the guide will lead you on a 2 to 3 hours Photo-Safari in a especially adapted open vehicles, this tour accesses more distant sites and - because of the height of the vehicle - it facilitates the observation of the fauna along the roads of the Pantanal and the Transpantaneira crossway. During the photo safari, It’s given the opportunity to watch the peculiarities and contrasts of the vegetation, as well as a large variety of animals. Folowing the photo safari, a canoe tour to spot aquatic wildlife, birds, flora and possibility of piranha fishing. During the dry season there is the possibility to lunch close to the river; during the wet season the lunch is at the lodge. After lunch, in the afternoon, hike to 25m /82 ft high Howler Monkey Tower for sunset. Dinner and overnight at Lodge.
DAY 5 - Pantanal
After Breakfast, Hike the Rondon trail to the 12m / 40 ft high Tuiuiu Tower. Return to lodge for the lunch. After that, Horseback Riding that is the most traditional way of becoming acquainted with Pantanal. It’s given the chance to explore areas of difficult access, where it is common to witness the harmonious convivial between cattle and the wild fauna. Return for the dinner and then sit by the fire for lecture or slide presentation. Overnight at Lodge.
DAY 6 - Pantanal / Porto de Galinhas
Sunrise hike. Breakfast. Enjoy the lodge, before your transfer to the airport for your flight to Porto de Galinhas. Arrive Porto de Galinhas - met by your guide for transfer to the Resort for some R&R before your Amazon adventure!
DAY 7 - Porto de Galinhas
Buffet Breakfast at the Resort. Day at leisure, or schedule a rejuvenating facial or couples massage. Dinner & overnight at the resort.
DAY 8 - Porto de Galinhas
Buffet breakfast at the resort. Day at leisure, perhaps some watersports? Snorkeling, paddleboard and kayak are available....Dinner and Overnight at the resort.
DAY 9 - Porto de Galinhas / Amazon
Early departure to the airport for your flight to Manaus. Arrive Manaus - met by guide and transfer to the Cruise Pier to meet the M/Y Tucano. This afternoon we embark on the Motor Yacht Tucano in Manaus, Brasil. We depart on the Rio Negro and as the vessel glides upstream we will have our first talk about Amazon environments. By late afternoon we enter one of the world’s largest river island systems, the Anavilhanas Archipelago. The boat will weave along a winding channel with rainforest on both sides in a riot of brilliant vegetation. Weather permitting, we will go for a launch excursion in the gnarled and dense flooded forest known as the Igapó. Along the river bank we may see some Squirrel Monkeys and we may hear the other-worldly growls of Howler Monkeys echoing through the primitive rainforest. The Amazon has one of the greatest collection of birds in the world and we are sure to see some of these brightly colored jewels perched in the treetops. We return to the M/Y Tucano for hors d’oeuvres on the observation deck and a toast to the rainforest sunset. Following dinner we will embark in our launches in search of nocturnal creatures such as the Caiman, the Amazon’s crocodilians. We may also see one of the large night birds such as a Potoo with its bulging eyes and large mouth adapted to swallow the huge Mariposa moths. Dinner & Overnight on board.
DAY 10 - Amazon
Shortly after sunrise this morning we explore the Anavilhanas Archipelago, a reserve that includes the world’s largest system of river islands and also areas of tall dense rainforest. Here we will see the strange environment called the Igapó, the black water flooded forest where dense forests grow right out of the dark water of the Rio Negro. Mid morning we return to the vessel for a hearty Brasilian breakfast. After some time to relax, weather permitting we will disembark at mid-morning and will go for a walk in the type of rainforest known as the Terra Firme. Here we have a good chance to see the markings, if not the animals themselves, of some of the Amazon’s great mammals like peccaries (wild pigs) or even a jaguar. Around mid-day return to the vessel for lunch and a siesta. In the afternoon we will excursion in our launches along the edges of the dense forest and listen to the sunset chorus of birds, howler monkeys, and frogs. Weather permitting, tonight we will have an excursion to spot caiman (the Amazon’s crocodiles) and other nocturnal creatures. We very often see arboreal porcupines or sloths scrambling high in the limbs. Dinner & Overnight on board.
DAY 11 - Amazon
This morning we awaken to another remote rainforest area where we will explore in our launches early in the morning, and walk in the forest in mid morning. During the middle of the day the vessel will venture downstream to a small village on the east bank of the Rio Negro. Late this afternoon we will visit this community to learn how traditions help families survive in the remote interior. Later this evening our vessel will weigh anchor and we will voyage downstream through the night to the Xiborena Peninsula that divides the two of the world’s most storied rivers: the Rio Negro and the Amazon River. DAY 12 - Amazon
Rising early, we excursion in the Lago Janauari Ecological Park, a dense forest that is flooded with the coffee colored water of the Amazon River. We explore a labyrinth of small channels overhung with gargantuan trees and vines. Listening to the chatter of creatures in the undergrowth we also keep our eyes open for monkeys, Three Toed Sloths, and the occasional Collared Anteater. By mid morning we return to the M/Y Tucano for a hearty breakfast and some time to relax. Later this morning we foray off the vessel again to explore this environment rich in life. Following lunch we navigate to the “Encontro das Aguas”, the several mile long joining of two of the world’s greatest rivers, the Rio Negro and The Amazon. The dark and light waters run side by side for several miles without mixing. Often Pink River Dolphins and also Grey River Dolphins leap and cavort along this stark line of contrasting currents. We then will turn our bows upstream to cruise on the Amazon River until the late afternoon. At this point in its course it has truly become the most magnificent river on the planet and carries fully 20% of all the fresh water on Earth. Late afternoon we will have another launch excursion in a fascinating environment known as the Varzea where we may angle for piranhas or thrill at brightly colored birds that hunt in these the vast fields of waving grass. At sunset we slowly begin to ascend the Rio Negro, cruising along but not stopping at the Porto de Manaus, one of the world’s great ports. More than a thousand miles from the sea, Manaus is the major port for much of the entire Amazon. We will see boats of every imaginable shape and purpose that serve this continent sized forest. Tonight we will sample the national drink of Brasil, the Caipirinha and have a farewell dinner. Overnight on board.
DAY 13 Amazon / Rio de Janeiro
Early this morning travelers will disembark the vessel at the riverside dock of the Hotel Tropical and transfer to the airport for flight to Rio de Janeiro. Arrive Rio - met by your guide and transfer to your hotel. Overnight at hotel.
DAY 14 - Rio de Janeiro
Breakfast at the hotel. Depart for your Half Day Corcovado Tour. Depart from the hotel to visit the Christ Statue, recently elected as one of the seven modern wonders of the world. The statue sits 2,300 ft. above sea level, atop Corcovado Hill. Following a scenic drive along the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon, we will arrive at the foot of the hill, where we embark on a small train which climbs the beautiful mountainside. Upon reaching the top, visitors will experience a panoramic view of Rio de Janeiro and discover why it is known as the “Marvelous City”! Overnight at hotel.
DAY 15 - Rio de Janeiro / Final Destination
Breakfast at the hotel. Day at Leisure to explore the city; optional tours available. This evening get ready to party like a local in the Lapa District! There is no other place in Rio that embodies the "alegria" or happiness of the Brazilian people more than the nightlife scene in the neighborhood of Lapa. Once the sun goes down, this normally quiet neighborhood turns into a bustling and vibrant area full of restaurants, nightclubs and bars. The streets fill with cariocas and gringos alike, who flock to this Rio nightlife Mecca with one thing in mind……fun!! From traditional northeastern forró, to Rio’s own samba, to reggae from Bahia, visitors will enjoy the best that the Rio music scene has to offer. On the Rio Nightlife Tour, we will take you right to the heart of the action where our local guides will accompany you to one of the best clubs in Lapa, Rio Scenarium an unusual bar, a mix between an antique shop and an auction room, where the locals come to listen to traditional Brazilian jazz and samba.
