DAY 01 | WELCOME TO BRAZIL!

Early this morning all guests board the vessel the Motor Yacht Tucano to depart upstream on the Rio Negro and cruise through the world’s largest river island system, the Anavilhanas Archipelago. The magnificent tangle of vegetation at the water’s edge can be easily seen from the vessel’s observation deck. You will soon enter a wilderness area where both shores are covered by dense rainforest. Keep your eyes peeled for pink river dolphins and a large collection of exotic birds. Late this afternoon, your first excursion will commence as you embark in launches and search for wildlife. Perhaps go for a swim in some of the world’s cleanest and most refreshing water!

Overnight on M/Y Tucano (L, D)

DAY 02 | LAGO TURIA

Early this morning hop into a launch and explore the rainforest along the waters edge. Hear, and perhaps see, howler monkeys amongst a morning serenade of toucans. After breakfast, go for a walk in the forest and learn about the wondrous ecology of the Amazon. Around midday, return for lunch and the vessel begin its journey with a possible stop to swim. In the late afternoon head out again in a launch to explore the forest and listen to the sunset chorus of birds and frogs.

DAY 03 | RIO NEGRO

Wake up early to explore the waking forest, hopefully seeing some monkeys in action. Return for breakfast followed by either a walk in the forest or an excursion in the launches. M/Y Tucano will travel during the middle of the day before an afternoon stop for an excursion. Sail through the night under the starry sky, taking this evening to relax and enjoy the steamship!

Overnight on M/Y Tucano (B, L, D)

DAY 04 | RIO NEGRO

After two morning excursions The M/Y Tucano will navigate the heavily forested shore, scouting for wildlife. Stop for a visit at a settler’s home that’s been carved out of the forest itself. Early this afternoon the ship will near an extraordinary river called the Rio Jaueperi, where you will see the varzea forest, a floodplain with vast wet grasslands and floating meadows. We will scout along the shoreline for some of the extraordinary creatures found only in this unique environment, such as fish, dolphins, and even the mighty jaguar. Weather permitting there will have a night excursion to observe nocturnal creatures.

Overnight on M/Y Tucano (B, L, D)

DAY 05 | RIO NEGRO

Today the ship will voyage to the west side of the Rio Negro, where you will again scout in a launch and walk in the forest, exploring interesting habitats rarely reached by visitors. Tonight the M/Y Tucano will head downstream to complete a morning arrival near the confluence with the Amazon River. Glide under the starry sky and perhaps sip the national drink of Brasil, the “Caipirinha” before trying a bit of samba on the top deck.

Overnight on M/Y Tucano (B, L, D)

DAY 06 | AMAZON RIVER

After breakfast this morning, explore the Lago Janauari Ecological Park where the thick water of the Amazon flows swiftly through the forest. This area is usually a very good place to observe wildlife. Around midday the vessel will travel to the “Encontra das Aguas” a stark several miles long line where two of the world’s largest rivers, the Amazon and the Negro, join in a turbulent maelstrom. Here, the dark water of the Negro runs beside the opaque brown water of the Amazon. In the afternoon, scout one of the area’s hidden streams to see more of the Amazon’s beautiful and bizarre creatures. Tonight, enjoy a farewell dinner and prepare for an early morning departure.
