Finally, your trips highlight will end at the region of Manuel Antonio National Park, a perfect place for families to explore this lush beach jungle and its national park right at your feet and encounter monkeys, sloths and an array of birds. Tortuguero National Park is known as Costa Rica’s "little Amazon".  There are no roads - travel is by boat along a series of rivers and canals or by foot on forest paths.  The park consists of a network of waterways surrounded by a vast tropical rain forest and is one of the best places to observe wildlife in Costa Rica. Tortuguero is a must for visitors who want to experience the amazing wonders of the tropical rain forest!  In Tortuguero, visitors will likely see 2 or 3 species of monkeys, iguanas, crested basilisk lizards (they look like miniature dinosaurs!), sloths, lots of water birds, toucans, parrots, parakeets, caiman (cousins of alligators), and possibly crocodiles, as well as colorful tropical forest birds.

Today, get ready to explore by boat the Tortuguero Canals and see the amazing wildlife!

Overnight at Manatus Hotel (B, L, D)

Enjoy some early morning wildlife watching before a delicious final breakfast at the lodge. You will be picked up at your hotel and taken for your boat transfer to the local airstrip, which is only 5 minutes away. After a 25 minute flight from Tortuguero to San Jose, your driver will meet you to make your way to one of the most unique habitats worldwide: the Cloud Forest in Monteverde, where high humidity creates a constant mist over the trees, giving you the feeling of walking through the clouds. This cool and moist environment is characterized by massive trees covered by thick carpets of small plants. Monkeys, pumas, tree frogs, even jaguars are just a few of the animals that call this region home. Thousands of exotic bird and plant species can be found in this nature lover's paradise.

Your home for the next 2 nights will be at the Hotel Senda Monteverde, a new sustainable luxury hotel in the Cloud Forest of Monteverde. Enjoy a visit to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. In the Puntarenas Province, the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve is one of the premier natural history destinations in Costa Rica. Known as the ‘Forest in the Clouds’, Monteverde is one of Costa Rica’s key conservation areas, taking in six different ecological zones and home to a kaleidoscopic array of flora and fauna. Breathtaking walking trails traverse this mountainous reserve, while a network of canopy bridges are suspended in the tree tops overhead – both offering visitors the chance to experience its astonishing biodiversity. The park’s menagerie of exotic wildlife includes jaguars, ocelots, three-wattled bell birds, bare-necked umbrella birds, and elusive, vividly colored quetzals, while its botanical offerings range from woodlands and rainforests, to exquisite orchids, delicate ferns, jungle vines and mosses. On your walk you may encounter monkeys, coatimundis, agoutis and numerous bird species.

After your walk, you will rest and then continue for a guided tour to The Selvatura Park. This is an easy 1.7 mile hike in the cloud forest trails and suspension bridges through and above the tree tops. Still didn’t get enough of the heavenly clouds? Take a walk in the clouds and stand on the continental divide where the Caribbean and Pacific sides meet. If you are still yearning for more, ask about the following guided excursions: Zip-lining, Water Rafting, aerial trams, night hikes, wildlife refuge visits, coffee tours, cheese factory tours, horseback riding and more!

If relaxation is on your mind, spend some time at one of the secluded beaches and brush up on your surf skills, or ask your travel planner at Craft Travel to arrange an excursion that may best fit your interest.
