Today you will be driven to Bariloche airport for your flight to El Calafate in Southern Patagonia.

Estimated flying time between Bariloche & El Calafate : 1 hours 30 minutes.

El Calafate is situated by Lake Argentino, a green water surface covering 1,600 km2 and has great mysterious depths, like all lakes originated from glaciers. It receives its name from the small bush calafate, indigenous of Patagonia. Its fruit is a delicious berry very good with which to make jam. According to tradition, whoever eats calafate will return for more. But reality is that whoever visits Calafate wants to stay there forever. It is an oasis of poplars, willows and pines at the border of the steppe.

Upon arrival you will be transferred to your hotel, Eolo, strategically located in La Anita valley, on the eastern side of Mount Frías (1 hour away from the airport). It stretches over a 3,000 hectare property. From Eolo's ample and comfortable facilities, which evoke ancient Patagonian"estancias“. You can observe Lago Argentino towards the north, La Anita Valley towards the east, and the Torres del Paine and the Rico branch of the same lake towards the south. The place is unique.

In the afternoon enjoy a Safari Experience, a midday 4x4 excursion which totally immerses you into the Patagonian steppe. Discover the balance of the regional ecosystem that varies as you ascend. There are excellent possibilities to see guanacos, condors, and foxes, among other members of the native fauna.

The pioneers and estancieros are part of the story during the tour inside the nature reserve "Estancia 25 de Mayo", who explain detected areas that are geologically unique to Argentina.

Overnight at Los Ponchos (B, D)

Today, after breakfast, you will visit the famous Perito Moreno glacier’s sidewalks. The glacier is an indescribable spectacle that fills visitors with wonder and admiration before even arriving to the destination.

You will also experience a minitrekking over the glacier. This excursion begins in the embarking pier located in “Bajo de las Sombras” port, about 6 km before the glacier Balconies - where you embark for a 20 minute navigation across the Rico Arm. Enjoy breath-taking views of the Perito Moreno glacier’s front wall. The group will disembark on the opposite shore, where specialized bilingual mountain guides welcome you and lead you to a small shelter. After checking the last details, small groups (max. 20) follow their guides along the lake’s shore towards the edge of the glacier. The two-hour circuit that follows introduces you to the fascinating landscape of the glaciers. See streams, small lagoons, gullies, crevasses and plenty of ice formations of the most incredible blues.

Note: the minitrekking is available only for people between 12 and 65 years old.

After disembarking at Estancia Cristina, the group signed up for this trek will be assigned a FWD vehicle with a specialized guide. Our ride will take us in ascent along the Feruglio cordon for 9.5 km where we will leave our vehicle. From there we will walk to the Upsala Glacier Lookout Point, which features stunning views of Lake Guillermo, the imposing Upsala Glacier’s eastern front and the South Patagonian Continental Ice Field.

From there, begin a 14km trekking over Fossil Canyon, an area with a great concentration of unique marine fossils, geological treasures left uncovered after the passage of the oceans long ago. This trek is a gradual downhill climb. During the journey there will be a break for lunch before walking down to Estancia Valley and to the boarding pier.

Enjoy your final night in Calafate.

Almost year round, its summit is covered by a cloud that the Tehuelches, primitive dwellers of the area, mistook for smoke.

You will be transferred to your lodge, Aguas Arriba, located at the Estancia Río de las Vueltas, 37 km away from El Chaltén; with 900 meters of shore along Lago del Desierto, and 700 acres of mountain ranged forests. Its construction was a true odyssey due to its remote location.

Hand built out of natural wood and noble stones, its ample windowsills portray the beauty of its natural surroundings: an emerald green lake, hanging glaciers, forests’, and spectacular views of The Fitz Roy. Its eco- friendly construction assures to preserve nature in its pristine state.

The lodge is accessible either by boat or on foot. It is a 15’ boat ride from the south point of the lake along its eastern margin, or a minimum 3 hours hike.
