DETAILED ITINERARY

1

Rio de Janeiro
Arrive in Rio de Janeiro and head out immediately with your guide and private transfer to Copacabana Beach for check into your hotel. Relax after your long journey at your rooftop pool or at the world's most famous beach just across the street. Get in the mood of Carnaval with one of Rio's famous "blocos", or street festivals with live music. There will probably be one happening right in front of you! Overnight at hotel.

2

Rio de Janeiro
Try to have a light breakfast today as you'll be venturing out around noon for a culinary tour of Rio de Janeiro. Take a taxi or grab the metro to the neighborhood of Lapa, and then head off walking toward Glória, Flamengo and Laranjeiras. You'll taste Amazonian fruit juices, visit a street market, bars and some really old restaurants, making a total of eight stops and finishing up with a big meal and plenty of beers and caipirinhas for those who are thirsty! There are also some really cool non-food stops (including Escadaria Selarón - the Selarón Steps) which we think you'll love! This is the best way to get situated in the city and have an understanding of all the delicious food you'll be eating over the course of the week. Plus you'll learn about Brazilian dishes that most foreigners have never heard of! Return to the hotel and enjoy the rest of your afternoon at leisure. After recovering from your food coma, head off with your guide to the neighborhood of Lapa, home to Rio's most legendary music club, Rio Scenarium. There is no other place in the city that embodies the "alegria" or happiness of the Brazilian people more than the nightlife-centered neighborhood of Lapa. Once the sun goes down, this normally quiet neighborhood turns into a bustling and vibrant area full of restaurants, nightclubs and bars. The streets fill with cariocas and gringos alike, who flock to this Rio nightlife Mecca with one thing in mind: fun! From traditional northeastern forró to Rio’s own samba to reggae from Bahia, you'll enjoy the best that the Rio music scene has to offer. You'll go right to the heart of the action where our local guides will accompany you to one of the best clubs in Lapa, Rio Scenarium, a mix between an antique shop and an auction room, where locals come to listen to traditional Brazilian jazz and samba. Overnight at hotel (B, L, snacks & drinks).

3

Rio de Janeiro
After breakfast you'll depart the hotel heading toward the Cosme Velho neighborhood. From there you will board the train taking you up the beautiful mountainside before arriving at the feet of Christ the Redeemer, one of the seven “New Wonders of the World”, located 2,300ft above sea level. From here you'll head toward Santa Teresa, a traditional neighborhood located high upon the hills of the city, overlooking downtown and Guanabara Bay. Home to several Twentieth century mansions, cultural houses, galleries and gourmet restaurants, Santa Teresa’s charming cobbled streets are also a haven for local artists and intellectuals. Enjoy your afternoon at leisure. Perhaps tonight is the night to attend the Samba Parade at the Sambodromo and see what Carnival in Rio is truly all about! Ask your trip planner for more details. Overnight at hotel (B).

4

Rio de Janeiro
Today you'll be picked up at the hotel by your guide to embark toward Sugarloaf Mountain, one of Rio's most iconic landmarks. After reaching the mountain's top via its famed cable cars, this special sunset visit will give you some of the most spectacular views that the "Cidade Maravilhosa" has to offer. After the visit, enjoy an afternoon at leisure or find out how you too can actually march in the Samba Parade at the Sambodromo! Overnight at hotel (B).

5

Rio de Janeiro
You've seen the major sites and all the marvels of Rio's Carnaval, so now comes the chance to get to know the city even better: a hike through the famous "Dois Irmaos" mountains, a bike tour of Rio's beachfront neighborhoods, a visit to the nearby beaches of Barra da Tijuca and Prainha? So many options! Just let your travel planner know what you might be interested in. Or spend the day relaxing at the pool or beach, recovering from your big celebration. Overnight at hotel (B).
